About Me!

Hello, my name is Soph and at the time of writing this I’m 21 and use She/They pronouns. I’m a multidisciplinary experimental artist: my work sits in the intersections of burlesque, cabaret, theatre, drag and underground spaces, but also in gallery installations – both static and interactive. As I find my feet as a creative, the current thread that is tying lots of my work together is humour and silliness – when I was younger I made a lot of “high concept” work that felt very performative, so right now I’m swinging the other way to see how stupid I can get whilst still remaining critical. I think it’s all I can do right now. It’s been a rough year of grief, and communities that I’m in (and an ally to) are suffering. As my body struggles to protest upon stood legs and raised fists, I’ll be making sure to laugh in the face of oppression at any (appropriate) chance I get. I would describe myself and my art as sincere, which can be difficult when trying to make people laugh, but that is a challenge I welcome with open arms. My open arms greet another facet of art I love: participation. I think about the audience a lot across all my work, and generally make it a goal of mine to always have work that entertains in some aspect. Call it a bad habit – right now I do not mind.
I hope you enjoy the rest of my website – it’s very much still a work in progress.
